We believe all people have a right to a fulfilling spiritual life. It is through contemplative spiritual practice that we are better able to understand ourselves and others, that we find connections with others and God, and can begin to engage in and change the world through love.

As a contemplative community of transformation, Episcopal House of Prayer seeks to learn what the times are asking of us. Our world is in desperate need of the transforming energy of love radiating from hearts steeped in prayer. EHoP is not a place of escape, but a hospitable space of deep formation, equipping spiritual seekers to be healers in a broken world. We do this through formal programming with wise teachers, through weekly opportunities for silent prayer and chanting, and through offering our facilities to individuals and groups in need of a beautiful and restful space for prayer, discernment and reflection.

We are building a vital structure of programming, designed to help us face the fragmentation and division of our times. With an arching theme of facing opposition through the wisdom of holding the tension of opposites, we will hold intentional space each month to reflect on key pairs of opposites—inner/outer, sacred/profane, black/white, and so on. In addition to our ongoing monthly Mystics and Prayer series, some of our beloved teachers will return…Martin Laird, Shefa Gold, Matthew Wright, Elizabeth Jarret Andrew, to name a few. We are also creating space for a six-part book series that hones the themes of spirituality, sustainability, and the role of nature and the environment within a cosmic perspective.

Beginning Seekers

Maybe you stumbled upon us from a google rabbit hole of searches around mediation and prayer. Or you have felt a call to a deeper form of prayer, intentionally seeking resources to find what that is. Any who are curious about the contemplative journey will find a welcoming space with EHoP. We work to create opportunities to learn about and practice contemplative prayer. A great place to start is by reading through our Reflections & Teachings page or browsing our Events page.

Clergy/Lay Leaders

It is not uncommon that clergy receive little training in contemplative prayer and spiritual formation while in seminary. Education is largely focused on doctrine, tradition, and theory with minimal exposure to practical theology and ministry, including prayer forms and methods, spiritual direction, discernment, life stages, and exposure to the lives of Saints & Mystics.

We work to build spiritual competency among participating church leaders, better equipping them for the practical aspects as spiritual directors. EHoP provides church leaders with tools and support to develop their own spiritual journey and with these practical competencies, better help congregants seeking depth and wholeness in their spiritual journey, especially when it comes to prayer, finding one’s purpose or path in life, and connecting deeply with others. Contact us to find out more about these opportunities.
